Obituary

Vi Baran of Nampa, Idaho, passed away at home with her husband by her side on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, she was 86 years old.

Vi was born on July 18, 1939, to John and Una Mae Franklin in Texas. She was the 4th of 9 children to John and Una Mae. Growing up, the family lived in various towns in Texas. She played various sports growing up, and graduated from Hallsville High School, where she was voted most jolly.

She met her husband, Alexander "Al" Baran in Fort Huachuca, Arizona in 1963 while working and living with her brother and sister-in-law. Al was about to get out of the army; this prompted a short engagement before they were married. Al worked with the National Cash Register Company, and this brought them to live in Ohio, where both of their son's, Jeff and Steve Baran, were born. As Al was promoted and received different jobs within NCR, they moved to various states including Kansas, New York, and California. Vi had worked for and received a secretarial certificate before being married, and she continued to work in secretarial arts work after her sons started school, working at Catholic Charities and various other businesses, which included working as the Executive Secretary for the Mayor of San Jose, CA.

Once Al retired the desire to see other parts of the US did not dwindle with Al and Vi, and they lived and explored many other states in retirement, seeing a lot of what our beautiful country has to offer. They lived in north Texas, southern Texas, Oregon, Arizona, California (in lots of different cities), and many more places as they explored the US in their retirement. They moved to Nampa, Idaho in April 2018.

Through all of Vi's years, she found great joy in planning and preparing beautiful meals for her family. This is a something she continued to find joy in, until the day she passed.

Vi is survived by her husband, Al Baran, her oldest son and grandson, Jeff and Parker Baran of Kent, Washington, and her youngest son and granddaughter, Steve and Bell Baran of Meridian, Idaho. She is also survived by two remaining sisters, Janet Palmer and Debbie Green, both of Texas.

There will be a small mass held for Vi at St. Paul's in Nampa on Thursday, October 30th at 2pm. A service will also be held for Vi at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620 on Thursday, November 13th at 1pm with a reception to follow (location TBD).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Catholic Charities.
