William 'Bill' Berner, Jr. Obituary William (Bill) Gilbert Berner, Jr., of Kuna, Idaho, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He died on June 27, 2024 at the age of 92. He was born to Maebelle and William Gilbert Berner Sr, in 1932 in Hackensack, New Jersey. Bill entered the U.S. Navy in1952 after attending Tusculum College in Tennessee for two years. He became a fighter pilot, achieved Top Gun status, flew off aircraft carriers and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He married Joan McCullough, his best friend and partner for life on July 13th, 1957. After leaving the Navy in 1964 he earned his bachelors degree in animal science from Oregon State University. The family settled in Idaho in 1970 where they established a dairy and ran it for more than 20 years and continued to farm their land for another 25 more. Bill loved his family, farming, reading nonfiction especially U.S. military history, puttering around in his shop and sitting on the back porch watching the corn grow. He enjoyed regaling his children and grandchildren with flying stories from his time in the Navy and was ruthless at cards. He was a devout member of the congregation of St. Pauls Catholic Church for fifty years. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of almost 65 years, Joan Helen Berner, daughter Carol Ann Oliver, son James Harold Berner, and granddaughter Alexis Jordan Berner-Coe. He is survived by children Bill Berner III, Richard Berner, Nancy Berner, Thomas Berner; grandchildren Nathan Berner, Kevin Berner, Dustin Berner, Miranda VanDamm, Bill Berner IV, Richard Berner, Cameron Berner, Erin Berner-Coe, Amanda Campbell and Spencer Oliver; and great grandchildren Nolan Reichard, Audrey VanDamm, Annaleah Campbell, Layla Campbell, Theona Berner, Olivia Berner and Clark Berner. A memorial prayer service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel. Burial will be held in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
