IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill" Paul
Hartman
June 16, 1945 – December 6, 2025
On Saturday, December 6th, 2025, William P. Hartman, loving son, husband, brother, father, and grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 80.
Bill was born in Denver, Colorado June 16th, 1945. He was the second child of C. P. and Helen Hartman. He grew up working in his parent's neighborhood grocery store, creating chaos in the neighborhood, and going on fishing trips with his parents. Bill loved baseball and pitched for West High School in Denver, and then at Mesa College (now Colorado Mesa University). He graduated with a master's degree in special education at The College of Northern Colorado. He taught high school briefly, then moved to Idaho in 1971 to take a job at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare managing the Adult and Child Development Center. While there, he helped establish early childhood development centers in Canyon County and Payette County, all while building an insurance agency on the side. He was hired as executive director of the Canyon County Organization on Aging in 1973, and he opened the Hartman Insurance Agency full time in 1979. In 1983 he helped to found the Vallivue Youth Baseball program, where he coached baseball for over a decade. Bill also officiated high school football for many years. He sold his agency and retired in 2008 and to pass the time after retirement, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and played golf regularly, making many friends in the Centennial Golf Course clubhouse.
On February 14, 1975, he married Jan Lawrence, his wife of 46 years, and they raised two sons, John and Derek. Bill and Jan had many adventures together and both loved live music and were annual attendees of the Sun Valley Jazz Festival, The Gene Harris Jazz Festival, as well as other music festivals around the west. Bill loved to watch sports, and with his family, attended many Boise State football and basketball games, traveling all around the country to watch bowl games, including the greatest football game of all time, the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. He loved the Yankees and his Denver Broncos. He was funny, kind, charming, and loved to visit with people, whether over a beer, or sharing a stick of gum, he just enjoyed visiting. Above all, he loved his family and he and Jan were fixtures at their children's and grandchildren's school
events. He was a great friend to his brother-in-law, Chuck, and to his sisters-in-law, Sharon, Kathy, and Linda, he was like a full brother.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, C. P., his step-father, Bob Scherck, mother, Helen, mother-in-law, Velma Lawrence, step-brothers, Sarge, Kenny, and Bert Holder, sister Patricia Covington, niece Lindsay, and his wife Jan. He is survived by his sister Sandra, brother Karl Scherck, his sons, John (Becky) and Derek (Melissa), grandchildren, Saige Tower (Dontese) and Brady Hartman (Lexy), and Wren and Lee Hartman, and his great-grandson, Trae. As well as numerous nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank Carolyn Summerton for her years of friendship, and Liz Rutke for all her help and care.
