Obituary

Willis Millard Cook, 96, of Nampa, Idaho passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 of natural causes at Karcher Estates in Nampa. Willis was born on June 1, 1915 near Quail, Texas to George and Duella Cook. In 1939, Willis married Florine Kehm Cook who passed away in 1983. Willis later met, and then married Iona Gloy on June 11, 1986.

Willis graduated from Riverton High School in Riverton, Wyoming. During his teenage years he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp. He attended Washington State College in Pullman Washington, later he earned degrees in highway and civil engineering from the International Correspondence Schools of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Willis worked at the Lucky M.C. Pathfinder Mine Corporation in Gas Hills, Wyoming. A few of his other occupations included working for the local lumberyards in Riverton, for the Bureau of Reclamation, and for the city of Riverton.

Willis is survived by his sisters Georgie Duffy and Jani Johnson of Petrolia, Texas, Betty Martin (Nick) of Georgia, his brother Danny Cook of Weatherford, Oklahoma, his son Kim Cook of Alaska, his step-daughter Angela Miller (Marvin) of Nampa, and his grandchildren Aaron Miller of Nampa, Kimberly Miller of Nampa, and Amanda McConnell (Kelly) of Sand Hollow, four great grandchildren Kyrie, Bryce, Michael and Toby McConnell.

Willis is preceded in death by his parents George and Duella Cook of Texas, his first wife Florine Cook of Riverton, Wyoming and his second wife Iona Cook of Nampa, Idaho.

Funeral and viewing services will be held Monday, October 17th at 10 am at the Nampa First Southern Baptist Church, located at 417 Almond Street. Internment will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Services will be under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.

A special thanks goes out to close longtime friends Rev. Don and Carolyn Hayhurst as well as Rev. Travis Best for the endless friendship and support over these last few years. We would also like to thank the many caregivers of Karcher Estates, Harrisons Hope Hospice, and Exceptional Care for their hard work and compassion.

Willis was truly an exceptional person in every way and will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him. He lived an active and full life. In his early years he was an avid traveler, a professional wrestler and a fervent football fan. Willis was always a kid at heart, and really knew how to enjoy life.
