Wilma Jane Wenning

February 7, 1922 - April 10, 2015

On Friday evening, April 10, our sweet Mom went to Heaven after 93 years of life. Her passing was gentle and peaceful, which was a gift from God and an answer to our prayers. We are celebrating her life and her release from a body that was weakened from several strokes and age. It is a blessing to know she is done with her struggle and was greeted at Heaven's gate by her loving Savior, Jesus. Rest sweetly with God, mother, we will see you again someday!

Our mother was born February 7, 1922 in Martinsville, Indiana, the only child of Louis Edwin Skaggs and Louise Frieda Skaggs. As a girl, Jane learned to play the piano, was a Girl Scout, and was Homecoming Queen at Martinsville High School, where she graduated in 1940. In 1942, mom started a nurses training in Indianapolis, but finding that fainting during surgery would not work for a nurse, she began taking bookkeeping courses. When WW II broke out she became a bookkeeper at the Curtis Wright aircraft plant in Indianapolis. It was there that she met her future husband, Glenden Wenning, who was working as a tool & die maker in the plant. After dad, who joined the Merchant Marines during the latter part of the war, was discharged, mom and dad were married on March 15, 1946. Shortly after, they moved to South Bend, IN, where Glen continued his tool & die career and Jane became the mother of Aaron, Jerry, and Cathy (Durfey), and a full-time homemaker. In 1959, the family moved to Phoenix, AZ, where mom and dad made their home until dad passed away in 2003.

Shortly after moving to Phoenix, the family started attending Camelback Bible Church, where mom accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. Having Christ in her life totally changed her priorities. For the next forty plus years, mother liked nothing more than telling people about her faith and how they could know they could go to heaven. She also became active in teaching children the gospel in Good New Clubs and in Sunday School classes.

Mom also loved camping, fishing, the outdoors, and helping others. After we kids were grown and dad had retired, mom and dad would go camping, fishing and sightseeing in the Rocky Mountains, or in Alaska, or wherever for several weeks each Summer. As she grew older, mom became more gentle, and peaceful, looking forward to the day she would join her husband, Glen, in Heaven.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her cousins. She is survived by her three children: Aaron and Elaine Wenning of Nampa, Idaho; Jerry and Brenda Wenning of Denver, Colorado; and Cathy and Walter Durfey of Nampa, Idaho; eight grandchildren: Seth, Abel, Brent, Kevin, Royce, Greg, and Christian Wenning, and Deborah (Debbee) Eliasson; and thirteen great grand children: Justin Wenning, Cambel Wenning , Bryella Wenning, Mercedes (Mercy) Wenning, Sharayah Wenning, Josiah Wenning, Selah Eliasson, Uriah Eliasson, Mercy Eliasson, Slias Eliasson, Enoch Eliasson, MeKensie Wenning, and Brinkley Wenning.
