Obituary

Woodie Martin Obituary Thursday January 26th, Woodie Jean Martin, surrounded by family, closed her eyes to this life and opened them in heaven. Woodie as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was born in Berea, Kentucky on October 1st, 1936, to Woodrow and Rachel Oakley. In her formative years, she lived in Berea with her Grandma and Grandpa Muncy. She graduated from high school and moved to Fallon, Nevada where she went to live with her mother. At the Fallon Church of the Nazarene she met a handsome Navy Medic and three months later they tied the knot. Philip and Woodie Martin, everlasting sweethearts, were married Sept. 24, 1954. In the following years they had four girls, five sons-in-laws, fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Woodie loved God and her family passionately. Her passions led her to child evangelism, neighborhood "Good News Clubs", creating, writing, and performing puppet shows on the road with her favorite puppet, Friendly. She also kept busy directing VBS, Kids Church, and 'clowning' for Jesus, Woodie also led many a Teen and Womens Bible Studies. She loved to unite others through laughter and was known as a party planner "extraordinaire". Later in life she followed her dream to become an entrepreneur of her own bridal shop. Her creative spirit also led her to painting, quilting, singing, stamping, coloring, hosting Sunday dinners for starving college students (their Grandchildren and friends), and camping with Kings Travelers. Her love of life is a treasure kept by all who knew her. Woodie displayed great courage as her eyes became dim, and her physical limitations overtook her true spirit. Every morning, as she walked into the room, you could hear her proclaim" This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" She will always be loved by her husband, hero and champion, Philip Martin, of 68 years. Her love will be cherished forever by Phil and Woodies 4 girls and their families.
