Charles "Charlie" Younger Obituary

Charles Ray Younger, 75, of Nampa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 28, 2022.  He was born to IF and Lucille Younger on December 6, 1946 in Decatur, Indiana. Charlie Younger was a kind Christian man who lived his faith every day of his life. He praised the Lord every day and he never made a big decision without praying about it first.  He loved his wife, Patty, of fifty-five years and his two sons, their wives and his grandchildren.  He was so proud of their accomplishments.  He was a friendly guy who carried on a meaningful conversation with literally everyone he met whether they were the golf club grounds keepers, the courtesy clerks at the grocery store, or a nurse at the hospital. He was a man of many interests and vocations. Charlie began playing football in the peewee league and continued through high school.  He began playing the tuba in sixth grade and continued for the rest of his life.  He refereed high school football and basketball while living in Coeur d’Alene and later in Boise.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, water skiing and snow skiing.  He started playing golf in high school and refined his skills throughout the years.  After retiring, he began playing golf several times a week and he took up wood carving and watercolors. Charlie served the Lord by playing in the church orchestra for the past 25 years. Charlie tried his hand at many vocations.  He started in retail selling pianos, men’s clothing, cars, RV’s, and jewelry.  He earned a degree in watch repair at Spokane Community College and went on to own two jewelry stores and a watch repair business.  Charlie volunteered with the Garden City Police Department and found that he liked law enforcement, so he worked as an Ada County Sheriff’s Deputy for two years.  He was a member of the Idaho Army National Guard 25th Army Band beginning in 1966.  In 1984, he learned of an opportunity to serve in the Army National Guard full time as a recruiter.  During the twenty years he served full time, he alternated between recruiting and acting as Training NCO for the 25th Army Band.  During his tenure with the band, they travelled to Paris and Costa Rica to play at the American Embassies.  Following his retirement from military service, he became a marshal at the Ada County Courthouse for eight years.  While waiting for his wife, Patty to retire, he volunteered with the Meridian High School Band and went calling on behalf of Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Patty (Clair) Younger, his sons, Russell and Timothy Younger and five grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, IF and Lucille Younger and his sister, Carolyn Carpenter.
