Darryl Burkhead Obituary

Darryl Burkhead

It is with a very heavy heart to announce the passing of a beloved Son, Brother, Father & Grandfather and good friend.  Darryl passed away peacefully at home in Skiatook Oklahoma on January 18, 2023 at the age of 61.

Our family is heartbroken over this sudden loss.  Darryl was a kind-hearted, spirited, fun-loving and, at times, a private person.  He never wanted to bother anyone with his problems but was always there to help someone else out if they needed.  He lived life on his terms, and he was never afraid to take risks.

Darryl was born in San Jose California and moved with his family at an early age to Nampa Idaho where he was raised with his sisters and brother.  He enjoyed wrestling and was on the wresting team in school.

After high school, he joined the Army and became an MP and then later enlisted in the Air Force.  Darryl was a patriot and loved to serve his country.  After that he traveled to Texas and worked for Safety Clean which then took him to Skiatook Oklahoma, where he started his own business Freedom Oil, LLC which he owned and operated until his passing.  His employees loved him and he was more than a boss to them, they were some of his best friends.  Darryl belonged to the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) in Skiatook & loved getting together with his employees and friends for rides.  He loved riding his Spyder which he called “Spiderman”.

Darryl had several hobbies and loves.  He loved the Avengers and the characters Captain American, Thor, the Hulk, Spiderman,  Iron Man (which I think he thought he was at times) and even had to ask his granddaughter Abby to help him download the ringtone to his phone.  He wanted to be everybody’s Superhero.  He also loved John Wayne (The Duke) movies, shooting his guns, playing on several of his “toys” as we called them, like his, 4 wheelers, playing on his golf cart and his tractor.  He loved his Corvette which he often raced at the racetrack.  He loved fishing so he had a very large pond put in and stocked it with several types of fish so he could fish whenever he wanted.  He loved anything adventurous like white water rafting, boating, riding his ATV’s, flying planes, camping with the family and yes, driving fast in his Corvette!  He once texted his daughter Jessica while driving the vet, the speedometer, and then called her to tell her about it, only for her to yell at him and tell him to get off the phone and drive!  He was a fun person to be around because you never knew what to expect, most of the time.  Darryl worked hard and played harder.

Darryl loved his family tremendously and would make several trips back to Idaho to spend time with them, we never knew what car he would bring as he had several including his Tesla which usually took him 3 days or more to drive here because he was always stopping to charge it.  Whenever he could, he would spend time with his family going camping and just enjoying time together.

Darryl is survived by his loving parents Tom & LaVerne Clark of Nampa, sisters, Sandy Schrock and husband Dale of Nampa, Janice Daniels and husband Jeff of Pasco Washington, brother Dan Clark of Nampa, his only daughter who he called his “baby girl”,  Jessica Dayley and husband Michael, grandchildren Abby & Spencer of Boise ID, ex-wife Tara Burkhead,  stepdaughter Jessica Cole, stepson Justin Cole and step grandchild June Cole all of Skiatook Oklahoma, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all who he loved dearly.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on February 3, 2023 at the Lakeview Bible Church in Nampa with a private burial following at Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa, ID.   He will be buried with military honors for his time in the service.  A public gathering with food and celebration of Darryl’s life, will be held following the burial, back at the Lakeview Bible Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Darryl’s honor.  Darryl had a lazy eye with astigmatism which required surgery at an early age, at St. Jude’s which he was forever grateful for and appreciative of, so he donated to them often.
