David "Wayne" Wood

David “Wayne” Wood, known by friends and family as Wayne, suddenly passed away at age 80, from a heart attack on July 10, 2020.  He had just celebrated his 50th Wedding Anniversary with his wife, Lucy Wood, on the 5th of July. Wayne was known for his enthusiasm in supporting The Salvation Army Church where he was a Senior Soldier and a Sunday School Teacher.  He often helped drive for the Salvation Army, picking-up Bell Ringers and transporting them throughout the Treasure Valley during the Christmas Holidays in support of the Red Kettle program.  He even dressed as Santa Claus for many children. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, farming, and taking care of various farm animals, gardening, and spending time with his friends and family.  

He retired from the Navy after 20 years, where he served as an Optical Man repairing telescopes, binoculars, and various optical instruments.  He also drove long haul trucks over the United States seeing the country.  In order to be closer to home and his family he drove trucks for various local companies around the Valley.  Wayne later served as a maximum-security prison guard and retired from the Idaho State Penitentiary.

Wayne was born to Thomas and Effie Wood in Meridian Idaho in 1939.  He had four other brothers Harry, Ronny, Gary, and Eddy.  He also had six half-sisters, Erma, Edith, Evelyn, Irene, Verda, Lenora, and three half-brothers, Rollie, Dick, and Buck. Wayne had been married to Elena Tulcus and had a son, Curtis and a daughter, Ginger.  When he married Lucy in 1970, they had two sons, David, and Michael.  At the time of Wayne’s passing, also known as his Promotion to Glory, he had 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Wayne’s family held a private memorial service on July 14th, conducted by The Nampa Salvation Army Corps Officers Captain Scruggs at the Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel.  There will be a celebration of life and graveside service at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at a future date to be decided.
