Eldred Dean "Reggie Matthews

Eldred “Reggie” Dean Matthews, 80 years of age, passed away July 19 th 2023 at Karcher Estates Nursing Facility where he had spent the last two years of his life. Eldred attended school in John Day Oregon, and later New Meadows Idaho. He worked on a ranch building fences and, in a restaurant, where he could eat all the French fries he wanted, after the job was over. He worked for JP Morgan in New Meadows Idaho cutting and loading trees, and later he took a job in McCall with Union Pacific Railroad.  He would later transfer with Union Pacific to Nampa and later Mountain Home. He retired from the railroad in 1997 after having two knee replacements. He also served in the National Guard. He married Deby Taylor on June 8, 1991. Together the loved the outdoors. Eldred loved fishing every chance he got! Among their hobbies were gardening, traveling to Jackpot (a favorite), Nebraska, the Oregon Coast, South Dakota and Alaska (fishing!).

Eldred has three sons (all born in McCall), Michael Matthews, Victor Matthews and Troy Matthews. Eldred also helped raise Deby’s children Emily (Eric) Lawson, James Taylor, and Robert Taylor. Eldred had 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren that were all the light of his life. He loved his grandbabies!

Eldred is survived by Deby, his beloved sister Linda (Matthews) Drinkard, his children and grandchildren. Along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was proceeded in death by his parents (Clifford and Alice Matthews), his brother Norman, and his grandson Jefferson.
