Flora Antunes Obituary

Flora Antunes, age 89 passed away peacefully in the arms of the lord on August 20, 2020. She was born June 2, 1931 to Florencio and Eluteria Montono in the little mountain town of Pecos, New Mexico. As a teenager, Flora went to Torrington, Wyoming to visit her sister. During this time, she met a very handsome man. She returned home and before too long, this handsome man went looking for her. He did not have an address. Pecos being a very small village, he asked around and found where she lived. He was on a mission to find her and ask her mother for her hand in marriage.  Flora was very young but her mom gave them her blessing. That handsome man was Manuel Antunes. They started a life together and moved to Torrington, Wyoming where their three children were born. They moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1952 residing there for many years before moving to Caldwell. Flora’s loving husband passed away in November of 2007. Both Flora and Manuel were employed with Foster Grandparents in Caldwell for many years. Before that, she worked in numerous nursing homes caring for the elderly. Over the last few years, her health had declined but she maintained her own residency living on her own. The last year and a half had been hard for her and it was decided that it was time to make a change. In August of 2019, she moved into Heron Place Assisted Living in Nampa where she enjoyed her time with the other residents and staff. We are grateful and blessed for the happiness she found at Heron Place.

Flora is survived by her children Tony (Selso) Antunes, Rachel Gray and husband Jerry, Ben Antunes and wife Rhonda, adopted son Johnny Martinez; brothers Florentino Montono, Ray Ortega, and Ignasio Ortega of New Mexico; sister Mary Ann Ortega of Kansas; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren with one more to be born next month. Flora has many nieces and nephews from Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Antunes, her parents, two grandsons, one brother, and two sisters.

A special thank you to Heron Place for the love and kindness she received during her stay and to the nurses and doctors that were under her care at West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell.

Mom is reunited with dad and her family. We love you mom and we will miss you very much.
