Gary A. Martinez, 51, of Boise, Idaho passed away on May 1, 2021 in St. George, Utah. He was daring greatly, rising to the challenge, and competing in a triathlon.
Gary was born in San Diego, California and lived in Pocatello, Idaho before settling in Boise.
Work was a passion for Gary. He held various IT positions and most recently was independently employed as a Change Management Consultant. Gary loved building relationships with clients, challenging himself to meet their needs, and empowering teams to reach the goals of their organization.
Gary was devoted to fitness. He loved mountain biking, and that hobby expanded to running, road biking, and swimming. At 49, Gary decided to train for a triathlon. He loved challenging himself, testing his body and his grit.
Gary’s greatest love was his family. He delighted in silly exchanges with his children, listening to their thoughts and ideas, and playing whatever and whenever they wanted. Gary challenged his family to approach life with gratitude, determination, and the belief they are able to make a positive change in themselves and their surroundings.
Gary’s faith was strong. It directed him during his most difficult times, and daily it provided a framework for reflecting on his life, his actions, and doing the next right thing. Gary’s faith was personal, yet he would openly share how God had changed him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Peggy Martinez. He is survived by his wife, Jessica, children, Angelo (21), Sam (8), and Elaine (6), and sister, Kendra.
The family gives their heartfelt thanks to Ironman St. George, especially the volunteers and the first responders who took quick action to save Gary and were with him when he entered heaven. We also extend our sincere thanks to Tri Town Bicycles, Wesleyan Preschool and Kindergarten and the Sacred Heart community for their tremendous outpouring of love and support.
