Gary Ward Obituary

Gary Wayne Ward was born on April 29, 1954 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Wayne and Donna Ward. He was the youngest of four children and last-born of a pair of identical twins.

Gary moved often when he was young as his father was a railroad conductor with a job that required frequent relocation. He grew up in several towns throughout Utah and Idaho (Nampa ID, Salt Lake City UT, Ogden UT, Glenns Ferry ID, and Twin Falls ID) and attended various schools along the way.  His time in high school was spent playing football, baseball, hunting, working (at Koto's café) and helping out on his grandfather's farm.  In 1972 he graduated from Twin Falls High School alongside his twin brother, Larry.  Following graduation, he moved to Washington D.C., where he spent two years working for the F.B.I. as a Fingerprint Technician; he returned to Twin Falls and worked in the construction industry for a short time, and later moved to Florida where he drove a delivery truck by day and worked as an EMT at night.  After 10 years of working two jobs, Gary bought his own truck and began a life-long career as a self-employed, long-haul truck driver.  Working for both North American Van-lines and LandStar he won numerous awards for on-time deliveries, customer service, and two, 1-million-mile safety awards.  In May of 2020 he retired from the trucking industry and relocated to Boise, Idaho, where he spent his final summer helping his twin brother fight wild fires.  From there his health declined to the point that he was no longer able to do the things he enjoyed: scuba diving, jeeping, trips to mountains, and golf.  His last days were spent at home with his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Debbie Ward.  His journey on earth came to end on April 5, 2021.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Donna Ward, his sister Diana Hill and her spouse, Gary Hill of Nampa, Idaho. He was survived by his twin brother, Larry Ward and spouse, Debra Ward of Boise Idaho; older brother Wilford Ward and spouse, Vonna Ward of Bountiful, Utah; his three children: Terry Ward and spouse, Laura Ward of Twin Falls, Idaho; Bradly Ward and spouse, Jennifer Ward of Eagle, Idaho; and daughter Tiffany Pomeroy and spouse, Matt Pomeroy of Rockledge, Florida; five grandchildren: Aiden, Bailey, Cameron, Jeffrey, and McKenna, as well as many nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the Boise Fire Department, Ada County Paramedics and the Boise Police Department for their professionalism in our time of need. Gary loved people and talked often of helping fallen firefighters and their families during difficult times. His family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wildland Firefighters Foundation at their website wffoundation.org (go to the "Donate Now" and scroll down to "In Memory of Gary Ward"). Gary and his family thank you!

Due to the Pandemic a memorial will be held at a later date.
