James Donald “Jim” Freeman, 86, of Nampa, passed away on January 11, 2022, in a Nampa hospital.
He was born on April 5, 1935, in Mountain Grove, Missouri to Vern and Nola Freeman. His father’s employment in the shipyards took the family to Washington where Jim spent his early childhood and then moved to Nampa where Jim graduated from Nampa High School in 1953. Shortly after graduation he began to work for the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked and retired after 45 years as a conductor. He married Margaret Ann “Peggy” Turpen on January 7, 1956, and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage. They raised two children together: Steve, born in October of 1956 and Lori, born in March of 1958. Family and railroading defined his life.
Family was very important to Jim. He seldom missed a school activity or athletic event of both Steve and Lori and continued with his grandsons. He was very proud of his grandsons and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; son Steve and wife Lorrie Freeman; daughter Lori (Dodie) Freeman; grandsons, Jeff, Toby, and Cody Freeman; great grandchildren, Addison Freeman and Charlie Freeman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Faye.
