James "Jim" DeHaven Obituary

 

 

James "Jim" DeHaven, 78, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 13, 2024. He was born on June 13, 1945, in Dallas, Oregon.

Jim was known for his funny and thoughtful nature. He had a humble and reserved demeanor, always showing compassion towards others. Jim was a hardworking and sincere individual who left a lasting impact on those who knew him. Jim had a love for reading, particularly science fiction and enjoyed British humor, especially Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Jim loved music, especially jazz and blues, serving his church community as a sound technician. 

In his early years, Jim served in the Army from 1963 to 1966 and later joined the Oregon Army National Guard. Along with his military career, Jim worked for the Oregon State Police 1978 - 2003, and the Nampa Police Department from 2005 - 2016. He loved working on cars, managing the service needs of the fleet of Oregon State Police and Nampa Police, He helped design the graphics on the Oregon State Police vehicles. He loved to travel, including trips to Hawaii, the east coast, cruises, and road trips which included a return to Wyoming where he had worked on a ranch during high school.

Jim was a member of the Salem First Church of the Nazarene in Salem, OR, and Nampa First Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, ID. His faith played an important role in his life, providing him with strength and guidance. 

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ruth DeHaven; his son, Jeffrey DeHaven, and daughter-in-law, Erin DeHaven, along with his grandchildren, Stella and Avery. He is also survived by his daughter, Alicia Cullison, and son-in-law, Cody Cullison, along with his grandchildren, Robyn and Benjamin. Jim is also survived by his sister, Jean DeHaven.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Ave. So. at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 20 with military honors by personnel from the Idaho Army National Guard. There will be a viewing at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, located at 415 12th Ave South Nampa, ID 83651 on Friday, January 19, from 6-8:00 pm. Jim will be buried at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Jim's family would like to thank Sunny Ridge Skilled Nursing, Family Life Memory Care, and Keystone Hospice for the care Jim received at the end of his life.
