Joan Helen (McCollough) Berner

August 21, 1932 ~ May 3, 2022 (age 89)

Joan Helen Berner of Kuna, Idaho, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She died in her sleep on May 3, 2022, at the age of 89. She was born to Anna Marie and Bill McCullough in 1932 in Monroe, New York. Bill Berner, Jr., her husband of almost 65 years, and best friend, was by her side at the time of her passing. She and Bill settled in Idaho in 1971 after moving around the country while he was a fighter pilot in the Navy. They established a dairy and ran it for more than 20 years and continued to farm their land for another 25 years.

Joan loved puttering around in the kitchen and her garden, cleaning her house with Montovani blasting on the record player, milking the cows and playing games, especially word games. She was a master at crosswords, an avid puzzle-builder and a shrewd card player. She was a devout Catholic, attending St. Paul’s Catholic Church, and she volunteered for several years at the Saint Vincent De Paul Thrift Store. She cared deeply about family and always adored children throughout her life.

Joan was preceded in death by daughter Carol Ann Oliver and son James Harold Berner. She is survived by children Bill Berner III, Richard Berner, Nancy Berner, Thomas Berner, grandchildren Nathan Berner, Kevin Berner, Dustin Berner, Miranda VanDam, Bill Berner IV, Richard Dylan Christopher Berner, Cameron Austin Berner, Alexis Berner-Coe, Erin Berner-Coe, Amanda Campbell and Spencer Oliver; and great grandchildren Nolyn Reichard, Audrey VanDam, Annaleah Campbell, Layla Campbell, Theona Berner, Olivia Berner and Clark Berner.

Joan’s life will be celebrated with a Memorial Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 510 W. Roosevelt Ave in Nampa, Idaho on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 2 PM. An online guest book is available at
