John Edward Pywell, Sr. died May 25,2022 in a convalescent center in Nampa, Idaho from complications from a fall in his home.
John was born March 24, 1936, to Elmer and Virginia Pywell on a farm on the southwest edge of Nampa. John attended grade school at Melmont and Bennett grade schools. He attended and graduated from Nampa Senior High School in 1954, where he participated in football and mechanical classes. It was here where he developed a lifelong interest in mechanics, specializing in heavy truck repair.
John enlisted in the Idaho National Guard in 1953 serving continuously through March 1964 when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of that unit that was called up to Ft. Lewis for active duty during the Berlin Crisis.
John married Judith Kay Sarnes March 10,1957. To this union were born two children, a son John Edward, Jr. on March 24, 1964, and Kimberly Kay on August 26,1967.
John joined the Nampa Elks Lodge in December of 1965. He immediately started through the lodge chairs, serving as Executor Ruler
In 1971-1972 he was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1972, serving a five-year term. John was an officer when the Nampa Lodge burned. He was instrumental in overseeing the rebuilding of the lodge. He was appointed Grand Lodge District Deputy for the lodge year 1978-1979. He served one year as State Association Youth Activity Chairman.
John’s working career was spent farming for himself for one year after high school. His farm he had rented was sold and another farm was not to be had. He then worked for Ed Tiegs for two years. Because of Judy’s asthma he had to leave the farm. He worked for Lindsey Ford Tractor until he was called to active duty in the Army. When he returned to Nampa, he worked for the International Harvester dealer. After that he went to Idaho Peterbilt truck shop, Brian Rambo Rock Crushing and finally Simplot Trucking. After retirement he did mobile truck repair until his health forced him to quit.
John’s life was totally upset on July 16, 1990, when his wife Judy died of complications from a fall in their home. Furthering John’s heartache was the death of Kimberly on October 24, 2010, from sudden heart failure. Adding to this agony was the death of John, Jr. August 9, 2012, from heart failure.
John was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Virginia Pywell, his wife Judith Kay Pywell, son John Pywell, Jr. daughter Kimberly Kay Shippy, brother-in-law Benton Long and sister- in- law Alice Pywell. He is survived by his grandson Jeffrey Carl John Pywell, U.S. Navy, granddaughter- in- law (Katie), great granddaughter Sparrow, sister Roma Long, brother Rolland Pywell, brother and sister- in- law Marlen and Jo Ann Pywell and son- in- law William Shippy.
