John Albert Wissel, 79, passed away on February 28, 2024, in Garden City, Idaho. He was born on October 10, 1944, in Nampa, Idaho and was the second of eleven children.
John farmed in Nampa and Mountain Home and built a career that was as rich and varied as the soil he loved. His life was rooted in service to the land and service to others — cultivating crops and partnerships. Beyond the fields, John ventured into sales with Big Sky Oil and the delivery service industry. There, he found joy in forging genuine relationships, and nurturing his approach to work and life: honest, fair, and caring.
A devoted family man, John is survived by his cherished his wife, Kathy, and was immensely proud of his children: Mechele Larmore (Jim), Nick Wissel (Trish), Lori Palermo (Stephen), Suzanne Christiansen (Paul), Jennifer Hayburn (Josh), Mark Wissel (Kristel). His twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren — were described as the light of his life.
John's love for his family was evident in his unwavering support and his unique attention and interest in their accomplishments and activities. He cherished epic adventures and creating traditions, always reflecting on the pride of his family. He was a passionate fan of Boise State sports teams and created lasting memories attending games all across the country with his loved ones, highlighted by the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona.
John's legacy lives on through the love and memories shared by his family and friends. His stories, his laughter, and the lessons he imparted remain with us, guiding us to take care of each other, to be fair, and to maintain our sense of humor through life's challenges.
