Katherine “Kathy” Ann Cornell, age 72, of Nampa, Idaho, went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2021, after a two year fight with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her family.
Kathy was born to Edward and Martha Geiszler on November 28, 1948, in Lodi, California. She had one sister, Candi. She put her trust in Jesus Christ as her Savior while attending Vacation Bible School at Galt Bible Church, and she sought to follow the Lord throughout her life. After graduating from Lodi High School in 1966 she trained to be a registered nurse at San Joaquin Delta College. In 1970, she headed off to Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she majored in Christian Education. While there, she met James Cornell, and the two were married August 4, 1973. They served the Lord in ministry together in California, Utah, Nevada, and Idaho. They were blessed with four children: Joe, Ed, Jayne, and Susan.
She continued serving as a registered nurse for 52 years as well as serving in various ways in her churches. Most recently, she was a member of Meridian First Baptist Church. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing, and quilting, and she also enjoyed pets, gardening, preserving food, and cooking for her family. Her smile lit up her face and made everyone around her feel a little bit happier.
She is survived by her husband Jim, children Joe, Ed (Stephanie), Jayne, and Susan (Tom), grandchildren Tom, Mariah, Zachary, and Isaac, and sister Candi. She is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Martha.
There will be a committal service at Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 10, 2021, at Meridian First Baptist Church at 11:00 am. Those who are unable to attend in person may share in the livestream of the service at https://youtu.be/h_DRypRAYH8 .
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meridian First Baptist Church in her name at 428 W Pine Ave., Meridian, ID 83642. The family wishes to thank the staff of Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute for their support during Kathy’s cancer treatment. They are also thankful for the support of many family and friends.
