Lavern Alden Fernau, 91 of Nampa, passed away February 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 10, 1929 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Dave and Ella (Walcott) Fernau; the 10th of 14 children.
He graduated high school in 1948 and worked on area ranches.
Lavern served two years active service in the United States Army. He had 9 brothers who served in the military. One brother was ineligible because of Polio and one brother Calvin was killed in Korea.
Mother Ella was honored as a Gold Star Mother for so many sons in the military.
We bought our home in Nampa, ID and lived there for 56 years on a small acreage and had room to raise calves.
Lavern started working for August Michaelis Construction and joined the Labor Union. He had just received his “60 year” pin.
At 57 he had a massive heart attack. For exercise and fresh air, he started gathering gold balls. He sold them on Franklin along his pasture.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Belle (Gudgel) Fernau of 66 years. Also, one brother Sidney (Joyce) Fernau from Rupert, ID; A sister in law, Sharron and Dean Jachem of Ainsworth, Nebraska and a brother in law, Jack Gudgel and family; Five Children all local, Deborah (Reggie)Mathews, Marylen (Rodney) Human, Deanna Sommer, Monte (Marcy) Fernau and Ginger Griffith; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Life Memories will be shared, Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Avenue S. Nampa, Idaho with military honors by personnel from the Idaho Army National Guard.
