Lola M. Sommer
September 6, 1926 – July 26, 2022
Lola Mae Sommer passed away, surrounded by family, on July 26, 2022. Born in New England, North Dakota, she moved to Idaho at age 8, where she lived the remainder of her life. Married to Robert “Bob” Sommer, together they had 11 children. Lola was a loving and supportive mother and a positive role model for her children. She was a tireless worker, raising a large family while managing the office for the Sommer Construction Company.
Lola was an excellent seamstress, making her children’s clothing in early years, doll clothes, and designing and sewing costumes for the local music group, Majors and Minors, in the 70’s. She loved collecting dolls and was a member of Les Bois Doll Club. She was also a faithful member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for several years.
She and Bob loved to travel in their motorhome and, together, visited almost every state in the US. They also travelled to Europe, Australia, Hawaii, and Alaska. Lola enjoyed many summers at their mountain property near Cascade, calling this her “special place”.
Lola will be lovingly remembered as a kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who put her family before self. She is survived by 9 of her children, Janice Yager (Steve), Sharon Simmons (John), Barbara Thompson (Rick), Maralyn, Steve (Nancy), Dave (Sherrie), Rob (Pam), Lee (Kathy), and Teresa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Robert J. Sommer, two sons, Lawrence and Jeffry, her parents, Charles and Edna Strang, and sister, Enid Davis.
The family wishes to thank Family Life Memory Care, and Journeys Hospice, both of Nampa, for the love and support they gave to our mother and our family while she was in their care.
All funeral services will be held at Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel.
