Margaret (Owen) Ward

Margaret Owen Ward, age 69, of Garden Valley Idaho, passed away of natural causes on July 28, 2023. She was surrounded by her children. 

Margaret was born on December 4th, 1953, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Robert Hutton Owen and Beverley June Odlum. Margaret was the second oldest of seven children. Growing up the daughter of an Episcopal Priest, Margaret's family moved often. Because of her father’s job she was able to travel around and experience much of the United States. Her travels ultimately landed her in Washington where she met and fell in love with Douglas Ward. The two married not soon after and moved to Garden Valley Idaho where they raised their four children, Robert, Annie, Patrick and Emily, in their home on Malfunction Junction, which she named. 

Margaret was a devoted wife and mother. She was able to stay home and devote all of her time to her family. Margaret loved flowers and spending time gardening. On any given day in the summer, you could find her out in her garden. Her goal was to grow enough food to be able to put some away for the winter months. Margaret was also a lifelong lover of books. She was always reading two or three books at a time and was the perfect person to ask for a book recommendation. As she grew older and wasn't able to garden as much, she took up knitting. She loved finding new knitting projects and making them for her friends and family. 

Above all, Margaret loved and was incredibly proud of her family.  She loved her grandchildren beyond measure. Family came before everything, and her favorite time of the year was July when her family and all of her siblings and their families would meet up on the Washington coast. 

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Beverly Owen, and her sister Karyn Owen. She is survived by her sisters Helen (Rick Parvey)Owen, Patti Swan and Laura (Jerry) George, her brothers Steven (Helen Hierschbiel ) Owen and David Owen. Her children Robert (Damian) Ward, Annie (Pete) Thompson, Patrick Ward and Emily Ward and her Grandchildren, Kendrew Ward, Kellen Ward, Ella Thompson, Molly Thompson, Beatrice Thompson, Henry Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Simon Thompson, Robin Thompson, Maggie Thompson and Hazel Thompson. 

Service will be held August 27th at 2:00 pm at The Crouch Community Hall in Garden Valley Idaho.
