Martha Weymouth Obituary

Martha Rau Weymouth, left this world peacefully on June 7, 2022 at the age of 99 years and 8 months. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Martha was born in Payette, Idaho on October 10, 1922, the eighth and youngest child of Friedrich and Maria Rau. Her parents immigrated in 1912 from a German Colony in Russia. They moved to Nampa when she was 3, where she attended school, graduating from Nampa High School.
Martha was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She attended Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa as a child because they had a service in German. She sang soprano in the church choir at Zion Lutheran in Nampa and Grace Lutheran Church in Caldwell. She played the organ and harmonica by ear.
Martha worked as a telephone operator after graduation in downtown Nampa. One Friday night a girlfriend talked her into going to a dance after getting off work at 10:00 p.m. She went, even though she knew her mother would disapprove, as she loved to dance. A young man who also loved to dance was there, his name was Willard Weymouth. He danced into her life and stayed for 66 years until his death in 2009. They were married July 15, 1943. She was now a farmer’s wife learning to drive tractor among other farm chores. During WWII they had German POWs working on the farm. One day the POWs were talking about the nice looking frauline (Martha) who was hanging up the wash. When she replied in German, there was total shock and silence by the POWs. Martha survived raising four sons. In her own words “we had four boys, Larry, Gary, Terry and Charles, NO GIRLS.” She was thrilled when granddaughters started arriving on the scene.
In 1952 they moved from a farm in Nampa to one on the Notus highway west of Caldwell. As her sons grew up, she worked at Armour Meat Packing plant in Nampa and Glen L Evans in Caldwell and as a PBX operator at the Canyon County Courthouse. In retirement she enjoyed working in her yard and garden.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and all siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Larry (Coralee) of Nampa, Gary (Jonie Kay) of Caldwell, Terry (Linda) of Caldwell, and Charles (Deborah) of Boise. 13 grandkids, 29 great-grandkids, two great-great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Some called her “Grandma the Great”.
A huge shout out to Grace Assisted Living/Memory care in Caldwell. Thank you; Rebecca, staff, and residents, for creating a welcoming, caring, and safe place for Martha. There was always a kind word and hug for Martha even when she didn’t remember your names.
