Obituary

Mary Ann Freitag/Taylor went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 1, 2023.

The family would like to thank Keystone Hospice and “By His Grace Home” for the excellent care, they provided.

MaryAnn was born in Verdigre, Nebraska on September 23, 1932, to William and Evelyn Stoural. She grew up on the family farm and went to school in a one room schoolhouse with her sister, Donna. In 1942 her family moved to Melba, Idaho where her dad continued to farm. Mary Ann attended Melba High School and enjoyed playing basketball and softball. She also was a cheerleader, Carnival Queen, and Salutatorian for the class of 1950.

Immediately after High School, MaryAnn attended Mercy School of Nursing in Nampa. She became a licensed RN in 1953 and enjoyed her calling as a nurse until her retirement in 1997. MaryAnn was House Supervisor and served the last 25 years at Mercy Hospital on the night graveyard shift. She stated that the nursing profession was “a calling” not just a job. This was evident by the respect she was given by those who worked under her guidance.

MaryAnn married Thomas Freitag in 1954. They were together for 19 years and were blessed with five children: John, Mike, Maureen, David, and Kent. She took great pride in her children and worked tirelessly to raise them. She was a very loving, compassionate, and caring mother. On May 31, 1996, she married Tom Taylor. They enjoyed retirement and traveled to 50 states and 30 foreign countries. They also enjoyed taking several cruises. A highlight of one trip was paragliding in New Zealand. MaryAnn enjoyed married life with Tom for 27 years and was a great wife and companion.

MaryAnn loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed nature, hiking, biking and learned how to downhill ski at age 65. She also enjoyed being involved in her church and Bible Studies, playing the piano, reading, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and playing Bridge with her friends.

MaryAnn set a wonderful example with her commitment to Jesus Christ and has influenced many people by modeling His love to others. She touched the hearts of each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Evelyn Stoural, son and daughter-in-law John and Elise Freitag, and son David Freitag.

MaryAnn is survived by her sister, Donna Haynes, husband Tom Taylor, son Mike Freitag, daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Bob Hampton, son and daughter-in-law Kent and Allison Freitag, stepdaughter, and son-in-law Sandi and BIas Gueno and stepdaughter and son-in-law Debi and Randy Nihart, 29 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
