Mercedes Johanna Phelps left us to be at peace in Heaven on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Caldwell, Idaho. She was born September 17, 1939 in Avondale, Newfoundland. She was born to Arthur and Josephine Whelan. Mercedes had 5 sisters, Patricia, Dorothy, Monica, Eileen and Joan. She also had one brother, Jerome.
Mercedes met the love of her life, Donald Phelps, in Argentia, Newfoundland while Donald was serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married June 6, 1959 and shortly after were blessed with 4 lovely daughters, Donna, Patricia, Colleen, and Karen. Mercedes donated much of her time to the Church, St. Vincent De Paul, and also volunteered in hospice.
Later in life, Mercedes was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mercedes loved spending time camping with her family and their dogs. Mercedes always put her children and grandchildren first. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Mercedes is survived by her husband, Donald, of 61 years; Sisters, Patricia, Eileen and Dorothy; Brother, Jerome; Daughters Donna (Brad), Patricia (Mike), Colleen, and Karen; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents, Sisters, Joan and Monica, and her grandson Rory.
A Rosary service will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 7:00 pm at Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Nampa. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com
