Michael James Shuman of Nampa, Idaho passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2020 of natural causes. He was born to parents Weldon and Karon Shuman on March 20, 1970 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mike graduated from Kimberly High School in 1988. He went on to study at Northwest Nazarene College for 3 years. Mike became employed at Micron in August 1993 where he continued to work for 27 years. Mike was currently working as the Sr. Manager of Business Systems and Recovery Operations. He loved his work family and was respected and loved by all who worked with him.
Mike met Shawna Clapp in 1989 in Nampa, Idaho while both were attending Northwest Nazarene College. Mike had been waiting in line at the registrar's office for 2 hours and Shawna was placed in line in front of him. Soon after, they had their first date. They were married on June 8, 1991 in Kimberly, Idaho. He always said he married “his best friend and the love of his life”. Together they raised four children: Braden, Rebekah, Alaina, and Thomas, who Mike lovingly referred to as the BRATS. He deeply loved his children and was so proud of them. He enjoyed hanging out with them and genuinely liked each of them and their different personalities. Mike enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be camping, going for drives in the mountains, hiking, fishing, or hunting. While in high school, Mike played football and wrestled. In his young adult years, he enjoyed snowboarding and playing softball and basketball on church rec teams. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends and coworkers. Mike was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He loved watching football with Shawna, but also enjoyed watching just about any sport, especially when his kids were involved. Mike loved his church family at Bethel Church of the Nazarene. He and Shawna began attending Bethel in 1992. Throughout the years, Mike has taught Sunday School, worked with the youth group, served as a counselor at kids camps, coached Upwards basketball, served on the church board, and served at the video desk. He also had a heart for missions and was privileged to go on work and witness trips with Bethel to Brazil and to Guatemala ⁰with his daughter Rebekah, which made it even more special. Mike also traveled to Israel last year with his father. It was a special trip and he enjoyed it so much that he convinced Shawna to go back with him this past March.
Mike was known for his kindness, patience, and compassion as well as his teasing nature. He was always willing and wanting to help those in need. Mike never hesitated to give financial help or to offer his home as a place for family and friends to stay in times of need. He lived out his faith by always doing his best to follow Christ's example in sharing with others the same love and grace that God gave to him.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife Shawna; son Braden; daughter Rebekah; daughter Alaina and her fiance Christian Navarrete; son Thomas; father Weldon; sister Stephanie and her husband Chris; and “brother from another mother” Don Curtis; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Karon Shuman.
The family has entrusted Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel with cremation arrangements. His inurnment will be at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa, Idaho. Mike’s memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 3:00pm at the Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 3001 12th Ave. Rd., Nampa, ID 83686.
