Reverend Don Cowley of Nampa, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on September 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Medford, Oregon on July 31, 1929, to Lloyd and Samantha (Hepler) Cowley. He was the 3rd of 7 children.
He graduated from High School in Crescent City, California. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a C-47 Crew Chief, during the Korean War. After leaving the service, Don attended Pasadena Nazarene College, where he majored in religion. He then attended Nazarene Theological Seminary, in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated with a Masters of Divinity.
It was while he was attending seminary that he met and married Ginny Poplin. They were married August 1, 1959. They have 2 children Scott (Linda) Cowley, of West Valley, UT and Sheri Cowley, of Nampa, ID. At the time of his passing, Don and Ginny had been married 62 years.
Don began pastoring upon graduation from seminary. The first church he pastored was in Lomax, Illinois. He then pastored in Walnut Creek, CA for 14 years. His last pastoral position was on staff at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, ID.
He then went back to school at the College of Idaho, where he received his Masters in Counseling at the age of 60. He founded Agape Counseling Services, where he practiced until his retirement.
He was given the Towel and Basin Award from his church in honor of his constant service to others. Being of service to God and to others was the ongoing theme of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Lloyd and Samantha, two brothers Cliff and Dallas and sister Mary Esther Lively-Neinast.
He is survived by his loving wife Ginny, children Scott (Linda) and Sheri, sister Eunice Hartwick, brother Eldon (Tracy) Cowley and sister LaDonna (Darrell) Deide. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren Brittany and Cian and 1 great grandchild, Ryder, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
His memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. There will be a viewing on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, from 6:00-8:00 PM
