Russell Duane Yuly went to his eternal home in Heaven on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, just 2 days short of his 88th birthday.
He was born on July 30, 1933 to Russell E. and Portia in Burlington, North Dakota. Russell was the oldest of 9 children. He had 6 brothers and 2 sisters. The family moved to Kirkland, Washington when Russell was 7 years old. When the family arrived at their new home, a wonderful pastor from the Kirkland Church of the Nazarene met them and invited them to church. The church became an important part of Russ’ life.
Russell graduated from the University of Washington with a business degree. He and Betty Winkle got married on September 2, 1955, at the Nazarene Church in Kirkland. Soon after Russell began his active duty in the Army and while stationed in Germany, Betty joined him and their first child was born there. Russell and Betty had 3 children, Rusty, Janet, and Loni Jo, and raised their children in Kirkland. Russell was a devoted churchman and served as NYMS District President, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Church Board Member, Lead on Building Committees for new building and remodeling for their church, and a work and witness team member to Africa, Germany, Poland, and Venezuela. His career was in the floor industry. Throughout his life he was an accomplished photographer, always sharing photos of all those wonderful vacations, weddings, and family gatherings. After retirement Russell and Betty enjoyed splitting their time between Washington, Arizona, and Idaho. A very important part of their life was enjoying the family at their cabin by Lake Wenatchee.
Russell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, son Russell (Karen) Yuly, daughters Janet (Scott) Michaelson, Loni (Jeff) Rotter. He is survived by loving grandchildren, Kristin (Jeremy) Chatelain, Brad (Ann Jean) Yuly, Stephanie (Jared) Trygg, Mikayla (Conner) Keating, Jason (Bethany) Yuly, Zac Michaelson, Sydney (Madj) Nafeh; his great grandchildren, Daniel, Jordan, Brielle, Curtis, Levi, Addilyn, Mason, Blakely, and Maelynn; his brothers, Rix, Eldon, Dan, Gene, and sister, Carol. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Don and Darrell, and sister, Wyota.
We are blessed because of the life of this very special man and thank God for him. He left a Christian heritage, and always pointed the way to Jesus.
A special thank you from the family to LuNa Hospice House and Harrison’s Hope for providing care and comfort during his last days on earth.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene. A private interment will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise with military honors by the Idaho Army National Guard.
