Walter Bohna Obituary

Walter Roy Bohna  joined his heavenly family on Friday, November 6th,2020.

Walter was born on April 15th 1930 in Portland Oregon to Charles and Dorothy Bohna.  His mother called him “Happy” as he was such a happy baby.  As he grew family and friends affectionally started calling him Bud and his brother Junior.  The family moved to Idaho when he was 3 years old and settled in Boise.  He attended Boise High School and joined the Marine Corp in 1948 when he graduated from high school.  He served in Korea and spent time in the DMZ during the war.  He returned home after 4 years, attended Boise Junior College and managed the A&W Root Beer stand at Kootenai and Vista.  He met Mary Ann Ward, courted and married her in 1952 and they had two girls Connie and Eva.  They divorced and Walter went back into the Marine Corp in 1956 for another 16 years.

While serving his second term he met and married Mary Bernadette Jacobs in 1957 in San Diego.  They had 5 children Cathy, David, Susie, Phillip and Sharon. He retired active service in 1972 and moved to Alaska with Army Corp of Engineers doing civil service surveying all around the world for the next 20 years.   During this time he went back to Korea as a surveyor and his T4 marker still stands at the center of downtown Seoul for all mapping and survey work.

He retired from civil service in 1990 and moved back to Boise, Idaho to spend time with his family.  He was an avid bowler in leagues and tournaments.  He earned two 300 series rings and one 800 series ring.  If he wasn’t at the bowling alley you could find him on the golf course, he loved to play golf in the summertime.  He moved to Arizona in 2013 so he could play golf year round with his buddies there.  He moved back to Idaho in 2019 and resided in Meridian until his death.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Dorothy, his older brother Charles (Junior), his daughter Cathy and both his wives.  He is survived by his six children, 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  He was a Marine thru and thru, Semper Fi.
