Eula Tombaugh

July 10, 1921 ~ November 23, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old


Eula Tombaugh, 95, of Nampa, went home to be with her precious Lord on November 23, 2016, having passed away at a local retirement center in Nampa.  Eula was born in Wray, Colorado on July 10, 1921.  She was the 7th of 9 children.  She graduated from Kearney High School in 1938, Iowa State with a degree in Dietetics in 1943, and a Master’s Degree at the University of Minnesota in 1961.

Eula did her dietetics internship in Dayton, Ohio and then moved to Kansas City, Missouri to work at St Luke’s Hospital and lived with her sister Vonnie.  During that time Eula felt a very definite call on her life to serve at Samaritan Hospital in Nampa, ID where she faithfully served from 1946 until 1958 when she took a teaching position at Northwest Nazarene College (now University) where she taught and served as Chairman of the Department of Home Economics until her retirement in 1983.

Eula was saved at age 4 and never falter from her faith.  She went on 4 Work and Witness Trips, 2 Prayer Vision Tours, and served as mission president at her church for many years.  She was a member of College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa for over 50 years, where she sang in the Grace Notes Choir. She moved her membership the last years of her life to Karcher Church of the Nazarene as it was closer to Karcher Estates where she made her home for almost 3 years.

She was on the founding board of Hands of Hope Northwest where she gave of her resources plus many hours making over 1000 quilts for various shelters in the Nampa area.

Eula had many close friends including Naomi Long whom she lived with for almost 50 years and the last years of her life special friends were Rich and Liz Murtland-her adopted family.  She leaves numerous nieces and nephews and sister in law, Mary Tombaugh.  She was preceded in death by all 8 siblings and her parents.  She is quoted as saying “My life was blessed with strong family ties, many friends, good health, gratifying work and a significant relationship with the Lord.”

A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at College Church of the Nazarene 504 E Dewey, Nampa ID on Wednesday, Nov 30 at 1 p.m. in Franklin Hall. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
